Care

Chiropractic adjustment

An adjustment is a manual movement, or one with a small instrument, in a joint. It is for adults who want a chiropractor to check how they move and explain what they propose.

The doctor explains each step before doing it and can change the technique if you ask. You can say stop at any time.

The essentials

What to expect

  • What a visit includes

A conversation about what you need, an exam and, if the doctor recommends it, one or more adjustments. Before any neck adjustment, the doctor explains the risks.

  • How long and how often

The first visit takes about 45 minutes. The doctor proposes a plan after the exam and reviews it with you at every visit. We don't promise a number of visits.

  • What we don't promise

We don't promise results: each person responds differently. Tiredness or sore muscles are common after an adjustment; tell us if they don't go away.

  • How it is paid

With or without insurance, we tell you the cost in writing before you start.

Questions

Questions about this care

What are the risks of an adjustment?

The most common are tiredness or sore muscles that pass. In rare cases, neck adjustment has been linked to injuries to the arteries of the neck, although it is not known whether it is the cause. The doctor explains the risks before any neck adjustment, and you decide.

Do I have to stop seeing my physician?

No. Chiropractic care doesn't replace your physician. If you are being treated for something else, tell us at the visit.
